According to a press release issued by the Dresden Prosecutor's Office in Saxony, Germany on July 16, local time, from June 19 to July 12, 2024, the Saxony Virtual Currency Custody and Disposal Center cooperated with Scheich Wertpapierspezialist AG, a professional securities trading bank in Frankfurt, Germany, and completed the sale of approximately 49,858 bitcoins with the support of the Federal Criminal Police. The revenue from the sale was approximately 2.639 billion euros.

The press release stated that this was the first emergency sale of Bitcoin on such a large scale in Germany. The proceeds from the sale of Bitcoin have not yet become new revenue for the Saxony state government budget, but are temporarily kept until the criminal proceedings are finally concluded.

In January this year, the Saxony police in Germany seized this batch of bitcoins from the operators of the piracy portal "Movie2k", which was worth 1.96 billion euros at the time.

It is worth noting that on June 19, the first day of the sale of Bitcoin in Germany, the price of Bitcoin was about $65,000, and then it fell all the way, once falling to $53,717 on July 6, and then gradually recovered. At present, the price of Bitcoin has rebounded to nearly $65,000.
