robert reed(robert reid), born on july 29, 1862 in stockbridge, massachusetts, usa, died on december 2, 1929 in clifton springs, new york. he was an outstanding american impressionist painter. his artistic journey began at the art students league in new york, and then went to paris for further studies at the académie gillian in 1885, where he met gustave clarence rodolphe boulanger and jules-joseph lefebvre. (jules joseph lefebvre) and other masters studied together.

reed's artistic style is known for its delicate capture of light and shadow effects and its rich decorative elements. the themes of his works mostly focus on young women and are popular for their decorative nature and celebration of youth and beauty. in 1888, reed returned to new york and began his career as a portrait painter, and gradually became a mentor at the art students league and cooper union, teaching aesthetic concepts and techniques.

as a member of the "top ten american (impressionist) painters" organization, reed withdrew from the society of american artists in 1897 and worked with a group of like-minded impressionist painters to promote the development of american art. equally talented in mural and stained glass designs, his works were not limited to private collections but appeared more widely in public spaces such as libraries and courthouses.
