foreign media: syria’s ambassador to russia said that syria has applied to join the brics cooperation mechanism
according to reports from russia's tass news agency and iran's mehr news agency on the 5th, syrian ambassador to russia bashar jaafari stated that syria has applied to join the brics cooperation mechanism.

"we are very interested in joining the brics cooperation mechanism. we have submitted a written application to join the mechanism," bashar jaafari told tass on the sidelines of a conference titled "north caucasus: new geostrategic opportunities" .
it is understood that this year, russia serves as the rotating chairman of the brics. in 2006, the foreign ministers of brazil, russia, india and china held their first meeting, kicking off brics cooperation. in response to the financial crisis, the leaders of the four countries held their first meeting in russia in june 2009, and the cooperation mechanism among brics countries was officially launched. in december 2010, the four countries formally absorbed south africa into the mechanism on the basis of consensus.
in january this year, with the addition of new members, the number of brics members increased to 10 countries, and the "waiting list" for applying to join continues to expand. after the expansion, the brics countries account for nearly half of the global population and one-fifth of global trade, becoming an important force in promoting world multipolarity.
