the longtime executive has been involved in building new tesla data centers in texas and new york state, two of the people said. the company is expanding its computing power to accelerate breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and enable autonomous driving.

representatives for musk, saldi and tesla did not respond to requests for comment.

according to saldi's linkedin profile, he left hewlett-packard co. in 2012 and joined tesla, becoming chief information officer in 2018 when tesla was in the throes of ramping up production of its model 3 sedan. the chief information officer (cio) is typically responsible for all information technology and security strategies, including the data center.
