according to reports from cnn, afp and other media, former us president and republican presidential candidate trump said on friday (october 4) local time that he believed israel should attack iran’s nuclear facilities in order to in response to iran launching missile attacks on the country this week. trump also said he disagreed with u.s. president joe biden's suggestion that israel respond reciprocally and not strike at iran's nuclear facilities.
according to reports, trump made the above remarks at a campaign event in north carolina.
"they asked (biden), 'what do you think, what do you think about iran? would you strike iran?' and he said, 'as long as they don't strike nuclear [facilities] and stuff like that.' that's right. that's what you wanted, right? i said, 'i think he got it wrong,'" trump said.
agence france-presse mentioned that on wednesday (october 2) local time, biden was asked whether he would support an attack on iran's nuclear facilities. he told reporters: "the answer is no."
according to the times of israel, biden stated at a white house press conference on friday (october 4) local time that israel has not yet decided how to respond to iran’s previous attacks. he also said that if he were in israel's perspective, he would consider options other than attacking iranian oil fields.
regarding israel's possible retaliatory move against iran's nuclear facilities, cnn stated in the latest report that biden hopes that israel will adopt a prudent attitude that can not only safeguard the country's right to fight back, but also avoid the middle east region from falling into a full-scale war. however, a senior us state department official revealed to the media on the 4th that israel has not yet assured the biden administration that it will not carry out retaliatory strikes against iran's nuclear facilities.
