academician of the chinese academy of engineering, famous experimental high-energy physicist, expert in particle detection technology, director of the institute of high energy physics, chinese academy of sciencesmr. ye minghan died in beijing at 12:30 on october 4, 2024 at the age of 99 due to ineffective treatment.
mr. ye minghan is one of the pioneers of low-energy accelerators, low-energy nuclear physics experiments, particle control measurement technology and high-energy physics experiments in china. he is the director of the large-scale scientific research projects "beijing electron positron collider (bepc) and beijing spectrometer (bes)" one of the main leaders, he has made important contributions to china's construction of nuclear physics and high-energy physics experimental bases and its place in the world's high-energy physics experimental research field.
in the 1950s, he participated in the development of my country's first and second charged particle accelerators (electrostatic accelerators with energy of 700 kiloelectronvolts and 2.5 megaelectronvolts), and was responsible for their operation and improvement, and achieved a number of important results. later, he took the lead in developing and developing a variety of particle detectors, carried out my country's first batch of nuclear physics experiments, and performed physics work at an international level. in the 1970s, he and xiao jian presided over the development of particle detectors commonly used in high-energy physics experiments such as multi-filament proportional chambers and drift chambers, and were the first to realize computer online data acquisition of multi-filament proportional chambers in china. since 1982, he has presided over the construction of the beijing spectrometer, a large-scale high-energy physics experimental particle detection device. the device was completed in 1988 and has achieved a series of internationally significant results such as the accurate measurement of the mass of cerium leptons. he has won the special prize of the national science and technology progress award and other awards.
