in february this year, nintendo, the most powerful legal department in east asia, successfully forced the yuzu emulator to reach a settlement, received a compensation of us$2.4 million, and stopped the development of the emulator. now, another popular switch emulator, ryujinx, has most likely stopped development and is no longer available for download.
developer and discord chat server administrator rip in peri peri revealed on the emulator's official server: "yesterday, nintendo contacted ryujinx developer gdkchan and proposed an agreement requiring him to stop development of the project and delete the organization and all associated resources it controls.”
"while still awaiting confirmation as to whether he accepted the agreement, the group has been removed so i think it is certain what the outcome will be."
currently, the download page of the ryujinx official website has become blank, and the simulator page on the code hosting website github also reports an error 404. gdkchan has yet to comment on the matter.
rip in peri peri said that other developers at ryujinx are also working on a lot of things behind the scenes, but these will never have a chance to be announced now. these include an ios version that "works just fine," an android version that's not quite ready yet, and other performance, compatibility, and "overall user experience" improvements in development.
he said: "this will be a real evolution of the simulator in the future, but it will always be stuck in the void and will not be released. i think this desire for perfection has made us the best in simulators, but unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to see some of our best work in action.”
he still believes in the existence of simulation games, and hopes other developers won't be stopped by ryujinx's closure: "the future of historical preservation of games depends on everyone, and maybe it will get proper recognition one day."
under a social media post that shared his chat history, someone has posted a mirror of the ryujinx source code.
