[cnmo technology news] according to bloomberg reporter mark gurman, apple’s r&d department is already testing iphone flip folding screen mobile phone samples.
apple isn't just filing for a patent, but actually developing foldable devices to address the crease issue. he said that while apple has "largely ignored" foldable phones so far, the company does have "prototypes with creases," but apple just doesn't want the creases to exist.
as gurman points out, foldable devices currently represent only a small portion of the smartphone market. even though manufacturers consider them the pinnacle of design, smartphones like the iphone still outsell them. this may be one of the reasons why apple hasn't launched a foldable device yet, despite competitors likesamsungthe sixth generation galaxy z fold 6 has been launched.
however, gurman is still optimistic about apple’s foldable phone. "i believe its design and apple-standard foldable iphone will be the best apple device to date and a game-changer," he wrote on social platforms.
there are rumors that the iphone flip may be launched in 2027, and apple still has time to fix the screen crease and other issues. in addition, apple may even produce other foldable devices, such as ipad/macbook hybrids, before launching a foldable iphone. gurman didn't mention a prototype of the device in his post, though, perhaps it's not that mature yet.
