the lao national chamber of commerce and industry is an important economic and trade promotion agency for laos to promote economic and commercial development. the purpose of the chamber of commerce is to safeguard the interests of enterprises developing in laos, provide opportunities for cooperation with neighboring countries, represent enterprises in policy consultations and discussions with the government, and improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
the establishment of the china hunan representative office aims to strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation between laos and the provinces under the jurisdiction of the lao consulate general in changsha (hunan, hubei, guizhou, henan) and other provinces and cities in central china.
laos is an important economic and trade partner of hunan. in recent years, cooperation between the two places has continued to deepen, and the construction of a green channel for agricultural development between laos and hunan is accelerating. as of august this year, hunan has established a total of 19 operating companies in laos, with a contracted chinese investment of us$260 million, and a contract value of foreign contracted projects under construction of us$118 million; a total of 359 china-laos freight trains have been operated, with a cargo value of approximately 3 billion dollars.
official statistics show that from january to august this year, the total import and export volume between hunan province and laos reached 580 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.3%, of which hunan province imported 280 million yuan from laos, a year-on-year increase of 118.3%. (over)
