according to previous news from the shanghai petrochemical wechat public account, starting from september 20, a large number of jellyfish appeared on the rotating mesh plate of the company's seawater pump room. the normal operation of the company's thermal power generation unit requires seawater from hangzhou bay to be pumped for cooling of the generating unit. under normal circumstances, the seawater used for cooling must first pass through a rotating filter to filter out debris, and then be sent to the generator set. a large number of jellyfish are adsorbed on the sea pump filter, blocking the inflow of seawater and threatening the normal operation of the system.

relevant people from shanghai petrochemical told the paper that shanghai petrochemical has never encountered a similar jellyfish invasion before, and this is the first time. according to their understanding, at present, several thermal power plants in the hangzhou bay area such as jiaxing and caojing chemical plant and power plant in zhejiang have also encountered such (jellyfish invasion) problems.
