the united nations big data hackathon competition aims to convene global data science talents and statistical talents to provide innovative solutions to promote the united nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development by building model algorithms and big data analysis. in 2023, in view of the chinese society's high attention to and enthusiasm for participation in global development issues, with the support of the united nations, the united nations global center for statistical big data and data science and zhejiang laboratory jointly held the first china competition. with the theme of "common prosperity and sustainable development", the first china competition attracted nearly a hundred teams from well-known universities and top institutions such as tsinghua university, peking university, zhejiang university, hong kong university, and institute of geophysical exploration to participate. the works cover many important fields such as farmland protection, urban energy conservation and emission reduction, rural revitalization and balanced development.
this year’s united nations big data hackathon china continues to be co-sponsored by the united nations global center for statistical big data and data science and zhijiang laboratory. the theme is “satellite remote sensing big data promotes sustainable development” and aims to attract domestic remote sensing science and technology. innovative talents in fields such as , data science, and economics, focusing on the main directions of food security, urban governance, environmental monitoring, etc., combine big data sources such as satellite remote sensing big data with technologies such as artificial intelligence to promote interdisciplinary research and cooperation, and explore the application potential of satellite remote sensing big data in agricultural management, urban planning, environmental protection, climate monitoring, disaster early warning and many other fields promotes innovative research in international and domestic data science and the sustainable development of the economy and society.
