at the 47th world skills competition that ended not long ago, guangzhou athletes won 7 gold medals, setting a historic record. the world champion stands on the podium with all the attention and glory, but behind it is the sweat and hard work he has put in day and night.
on september 27, my guangzhou·my 15th national games - "youth flying and building dreams for the national games" champions' storytelling to welcome the national games was held in guangzhou. the world skills competition champion shares the story of struggle and journey behind the champion, conveys the champion spirit of hard work and fearless advancement, and encourages young people to live up to their youth and pursue their dreams bravely. they also shouted the slogan "flying youth, building dreams for the national games" to build momentum for next year's 15th national games.
"the competition is over, i really can't hold it back!!!" this is a post posted by huang bolin, a "post-2000" teacher from guangzhou light industry technician college, on the night after the fine woodworking event of the 47th worldskills competition ended.
from coming into contact with and understanding the world championships in 2018 to realizing his gold medal dream in lyon, france, huang bolin clearly remembers the 2,362 days he went through.
he has been interested in hands-on assembly and operation since he was a child, and chose vocational education after graduating from junior high school. because he grew up in a furniture store, he did not choose popular majors such as auto repair and the internet, but chose carpentry.
after becoming a member of the "three wood" project echelon of the academy world championships, huang bolin immersed himself in wood and tools, training day after day. this practice lasted for 6 and a half years.
when huang bolin achieved certain results in the field of furniture production, he made a decision that many people did not understand - to switch projects.
from the familiar furniture making to the unfamiliar fine woodworking, the difference is like crossing mountains, rivers and lakes. the difficulty of the process, technical requirements and even the focus of the project have all undergone earth-shaking changes. many people don't understand, and even find it incredible, but huang bolin knows very well that in the field of furniture production, he is close to his own bottleneck. if he wants to break through, he must have the courage to change.
speaking of this journey to win gold in the world championships, huang bolin said: “it’s been full of twists and turns!”
the questions of this project have undergone comprehensive changes: all elements in the three sets of sample questions need to be redesigned, with changes as high as 100%. the uncertainty of the competition is extremely high, which greatly tests the players' adaptability.
with the 5-minute countdown to the game, huang bolin was entering the assembly and polishing process. he had to control the process error of each part within a few tenths of a millimeter in a short period of time, and he also had to achieve a polishing precision that would lead the world.
huang bolin said, "i only had one belief in my heart at that time: i want to wear the five-star red flag and stand on the highest podium of the world series!"
there is faith in the heart and strength under the feet. it was with the support of this belief that huang bolin devoted himself wholeheartedly to completing his work and successfully won the gold medal in the fine woodworking project.
huang bolin believes that the spirit of leanness, focus, and innovation, when placed in the sports olympics, also creates higher, faster, and stronger forces. he sincerely hopes that at the 15th national games, guangdong athletes can achieve great results by themselves.
