today, wang ying, deputy director of the glaucoma department of nanning aier eye hospital, is here to talk to you about this hidden vision "killer" - open-angle glaucoma.

1. what is open-angle glaucoma?

open-angle glaucoma is one of the common types of glaucoma. unlike angle-closure glaucoma, patients with open-angle glaucoma have open angles. in layman's terms, human eyes are constantly secreting "aqueous humor", and the "aqueous humor" must be drained out through a structure called the "anterior chamber angle." the "anterior chamber angle" is like the drainage outlet of the eye. angle-closure glaucoma is caused by the drainage outlet being too narrow and acutely closed; while open-angle glaucoma is caused by a problem with the filter of the drainage outlet. the filtration performance is poor, the aqueous humor cannot be drained out, and the pressure on the eyeball increases, causing optic nerve damage.
