on september 25, the 2024 international information and communication exhibition opened in beijing. the daily economic news reporter learned from the scene that this exhibition is themed "promoting the deep integration of digital and real to build new quality productivity" and comprehensively displays the latest achievements in the development of the information and communication industry. zhang yunming, vice minister of the ministry of industry and information technology, attended the opening forum and delivered a speech.

zhang yunming said that the digital transformation of the world economy is an irresistible trend, and the new industrial revolution will profoundly reshape human society. the information and communication industry should seize the historical opportunity, deepen reform and innovation, promote the deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy, and provide new impetus for high-quality development. we should further strengthen the strategic layout, continue to optimize the information infrastructure; further strengthen technology leadership, continue to enhance the momentum of industrial development; further strengthen application empowerment, continue to promote the deep integration of digital and real economy; further strengthen reform and innovation, and continue to create an open and win-win ecology.

academician of the chinese academy of engineering, beijing university of posts and telecommunicationsprofessor zhang ping gave a speech on “6gnew quality productivityhe delivered a keynote speech entitled "6g is an important strategic support for the development of the internet of things". zhang ping said that as a basic and leading future industry, 6g is forward-looking, innovative, disruptive and integrated. it will comprehensively build a new generation of information network infrastructure for the intelligent connection of all things, and is an important support for our development of new quality productivity.

in zhang ping's view, compared with 5g, 6g has added three major application scenarios: integrated perception and communication, integrated ai (artificial intelligence) communication, and ubiquitous connectivity, and will face challenges in four aspects.

specifically, the first is that communication performance has been greatly improved, and sustainable development has become a challenge. he mentioned that 6g will greatly improve traditional communication performance such as communication efficiency, latency and number of connections, but when it comes to broadband, 6g should focus more on efficiency rather than how much wider the broadband is than before.

second, the integration of multiple factors, especially the integration of communications and ai, is a key problem. "when we talk about ubiquitous ai, is it ai running in our communication network? or is it using ai to design the communication network? these are two different concepts." zhang ping believes that it is necessary to strengthen the deep integration of communication-perception-computing-artificial intelligence-data-security and other factors.

third, the on-demand supply of services and capabilities, on-demand customization and personalized services are in conflict with rigid system design. "in the past, system design may have been done according to different modules, each with its own responsibilities, without a unified idea, so the combined design is contradictory, such as source compression and channel coding, one removes redundancy and the other adds redundancy."

fourth, integrated air-ground-land coverage. zhang ping said that 6g includes a variety of access networks, such as mobile cellular, satellite communications, drone communications, visible light communications, etc. "although coverage is not a technical issue, but an economic issue, we think that air-ground-land coverage will be a major trend in the future, especially for sparsely populated areas with no economic value. it is easier to achieve coverage with ground and space."
