may 14: co-founder and chief scientist ilya sutskever leaves. sutskever recently co-founded safe superintelligence, which raised $1 billion in cash in september to help develop safe ai systems.
june 10: openai hires sarah friar, former ceo of social media company nextdoor, as its first chief financial officer. it also appoints kevin weil, formerly of twitter, facebook, and instagram, as its chief product officer.
august 5: co-founder john schulman leaves for competitor anthropic.
august 8: zico kolter, professor and director of the machine learning department at carnegie mellon university, was appointed to the board and joined the openai board’s safety committee. kolter’s work focuses on ai safety.
september 25: chief technology officer mira murati leaves the company after six and a half years. she briefly served as ceo when sam altman was fired by the board.
