recently, at the 2024 tencent global digital ecosystem conference map session, duan jianbo, vice president of technology and co-founder of didi chuxing, shared the development history of didi chuxing's map solutions, as well as the background and results of the cooperation with tencent maps' location services.
as a travel platform, maps are the core basic capabilities, core experience and services. how to deeply integrate business scenarios and create a map experience exclusive to shared travel is the direction of efforts. didi chuxing began to explore how to build a map solution exclusive to shared travel a few years ago, and in this process, cooperation with tencent maps became an accelerator and booster.
after years of exploration and acceleration in the past three years, didi chuxing has built a map solution exclusively for ride-sharing and taxi services, and has achieved autonomous capabilities in route planning, start-end search, pick-up point recommendation, and driver-passenger co-display. tencent maps' empowerment and support in basic data such as positioning, navigation, and road networks has enabled didi chuxing to combine its own algorithms, technical capabilities, and deep understanding and insight into the travel business to build autonomous map capabilities more quickly and bring about continuous upgrades and evolutions in the map experience.
for example, before a trip, with the support of tencent maps' complete and accurate location data, dida travel combines user search history and boarding point preferences to make the results of search algorithms and recommendation algorithms more accurate, allowing users to find their intended destinations faster when searching, while also making the boarding locations more suitable and convenient, and closer to the hitchhiking scenario. currently, dida travel's intelligent boarding point recommendation function recommends 500 million boarding points to users every week, and the boarding location fixation rate has increased by 8%.
in terms of route planning, didi chuxing has built intelligent route planning capabilities exclusively for hitchhiking and taxis. combined with tencent map road network data, it makes eta (estimated time of arrival) more accurate, estimated mileage costs more accurate, the order of multi-person ride-sharing pick-up and drop-off more reasonable, and helps hitchhiking car owners find more fellow travelers.
in addition, didi chuxing's self-developed driver-passenger simultaneous display capability, combined with tencent maps' real-time navigation, allows drivers and passengers to see each other's real-time location changes and routes before getting on the car; during the trip, passengers can view the driver/owner's driving route, current road conditions, remaining mileage, estimated arrival time and other information in real time, and will be reminded in time if the route is changed.
in fact, the route planning for a real hitchhiking is different from the point-to-point navigation for commercial travel, because hitchhiking is not a dispatching system, but a supply and demand matching between car owners and passengers. for example, 2-3 passengers join together to get from point a to b. how to construct a more reasonable pick-up and drop-off route? didi chuxing can rely on the road network data support of tencent maps for secondary development and improvement.
duan jianbo said that by sharing map data with tencent and co-building the overall architecture, the map data format and multi-platform map experience have been unified. in fact, the cooperation between didi chuxing and tencent maps has achieved a mutually reinforcing positive cycle, bringing significant innovative value to both parties, and also exploring innovative ways to achieve win-win cooperation between travel platforms and map platforms.
