exploring the vast universe and building a space power is our unremitting space dream. since the project was officially launched in january 2004, the lunar exploration project has gone through 20 years. today, my country has achieved solid progress in the field of lunar exploration from "following" to "running side by side" and then to "leading" in part, writing a bold and colorful chapter in the history of human lunar exploration.

at the beginning of the new century, the party central committee had a far-sighted vision, grasped the trend of world scientific and technological development and the general trend of my country's economic and technological development, made a major strategic decision to implement the lunar exploration project, and determined the three-step overall plan of "orbiting, landing, and returning". thus, chang'e's journey to the moon began.

"it's orbiting, it's orbiting!" on october 24, 2007, chang'e-1 took off from the xichang satellite launch center. on november 5, chang'e-1 arrived near the moon and "braked" at the perigee. a few minutes later, the screen showed that chang'e-1 had been accurately captured by the moon's gravity and successfully orbited the moon. this is a breakthrough in china's lunar exploration and the third milestone in the history of my country's space development after the success of artificial earth satellites and manned space flights.
