according to foreign media reports on september 24, general artificial intelligence startup anthropic pbc is seeking to raise new funds at a valuation of up to us$40 billion.

the report comes from the information, citing a conversation between an unnamed existing investor and company leaders. the talks are reportedly in the early stages, and it is unclear whether investors will agree to such a high valuation.

the information also said that anthropic plans to present its results to investors at morgan stanley's private technology conference next month. it is worth noting that although startups do not usually hire investment banks to solicit investments, they do so through complex financing methods, and anthropic has previously raised funds from corporate investors, not just venture capital firms.

news of anthropic’s search for new funding comes after reports emerged nearly two weeks ago that anthropic’s main competitor, openai, was seeking to raise $6.5 billion at a $150 billion valuation.

entering the new round, anthropic has raised about $7.6 billion, including forward commitments. anthropic’s largest investor is amazon.com inc., which has invested in the company twice — $2.75 billion in march and $1.25 billion in september 2023.

the collaboration between the two companies includes making anthropic’s large language models available on amazon bedrock, and a report in august also indicated that anthropic will power updated versions of amazon’s alexa smart assistant.
