xu wenrong was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the first instance

according to cctv news, on september 20, the intermediate people's court of shenyang city, liaoning province, publicly pronounced the verdict on the bribery case of xu wenrong, former deputy secretary of the party committee and deputy general manager of china national petroleum corporation. the defendant xu wenrong was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the crime of accepting bribes and fined rmb 3.5 million. the property and interest obtained by xu wenrong from taking bribes were recovered according to law and turned over to the state treasury.

after trial, it was found that from 1998 to 2023, the defendant xu wenrong used the convenience of his positions as deputy director of the petroleum geophysical exploration bureau and general manager of the international exploration department, deputy secretary of the party committee and general manager of china national petroleum corporation oriental geophysical exploration co., ltd., assistant to the general manager of china national petroleum corporation, member of the party leadership group, head of the party leadership group’s discipline inspection group, and deputy general manager of china shipping (group) corporation, deputy secretary of the party leadership group and deputy general manager of china national petroleum corporation, deputy secretary of the party leadership group and deputy general manager of china national petroleum corporation, and full-time external director of central enterprises, as well as the convenience formed by his power or status, to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in project contracting, equipment procurement, business operations, promotion and other matters, and illegally accepted property totaling more than rmb 53.29 million.

xu wenrong was arrested on january 8 this year, prosecuted on april 9, and tried on june 21.

it is worth mentioning that according to public reports, in december 2018, several central enterprises announced the salaries of their senior executives in 2017, including xu wenrong, then deputy secretary of the cpc committee and deputy general manager of petrochina. according to public salary information, xu wenrong's pre-tax remuneration in petrochina in 2017 was 630,100 yuan, and the company's deposit for "five insurances and one fund" was 166,600 yuan. in addition, with the term incentive income during his tenure at china ocean shipping, xu wenrong's total salary in 2017 was 911,400 yuan.
