looking back at history, foshan normal university and foshan branch of south china agricultural university were established in 1958. later, foshan normal university was renamed foshan normal college, and foshan branch of south china agricultural college was renamed foshan veterinary college and foshan agricultural and animal husbandry college. in 1986, foshan university was established on the basis of foshan normal college at the college level. in 1995, foshan university merged with foshan agricultural and animal husbandry college to form foshan university of science and technology, and was upgraded to an undergraduate university.

foshan university has 2 guangdong province key disciplines, 4 characteristic key disciplines,rushfour key disciplines for “strengthening” construction were added, and six disciplines, including engineering, materials science, environmental science/ecology, plant and animal science, chemistry, and agricultural science, entered the top 1% of the esi global ranking.

in terms of scientific research, the school has one national hydrogen energy technology standard innovation base (foshan) of the standards administration of the people's republic of china, one guangdong-hong kong-macao joint laboratory, and nine guangdong provincial key laboratories. in 2022, a total of 7 projects won the second prize of guangdong science and technology progress award (the number of awards ranked 8th in the guangdong science and technology award university ranking list that year). in 2023, it was ranked 5th in guangdong province and was listed among the top 100 universities for inventions and creations in china.

on june 20 this year, foshan university’s visual image recognition system was officially released and foshan university’s new graduation certificate was unveiled.

according to a previous report by guangzhou daily, this year is the first year for foshan university to enroll students after its successful name change. not only has the enrollment plan increased significantly to 13.56%, the admission score has achieved a historic leap. all general physics majors are admitted above the special control line, and the lowest ranking has jumped by about 53,000 places compared to last year; all general history majors are ranked 22,000, and the lowest ranking has jumped by about 15,000 places compared to last year.
