"this overpass was originally proposed by several of us deputies to the national people's congress who visited the station based on suggestions from the masses. it is very gratifying to see it slowly built from scratch," said li fengzhao, a deputy to the municipal people's congress.
recently, guangzhou municipal people's congress representatives luo ding, hu guoxiong, li fengzhao and huadu district people's congress representatives chen xiaoan and li bingwei once again visited the fengshen avenue (fengshen garden) pedestrian bridge to inspect and investigate the use of the bridge. nearby residents expressed their gratitude to the representatives. this warm scene is an affirmation of the performance of the people's congress representatives.

the new overpass has gone through many twists and turns
fengshen avenue (fengshen garden) pedestrian bridge is located in front of fengshen garden community. surrounding it are fei'eling primary school, fei'eling metro station, dongfeng gymnasium and many communities. it has a high population density and many traffic demands. before the construction of the bridge, only pedestrians were opened at the intersection, and there were no traffic lights. residents who went to the vegetable market to buy vegetables, to school to pick up students, and food delivery riders could only wait for an opportunity to pass in the traffic. fengshen avenue is also the main east-west urban road in huadu district. it has a large volume of traffic, fast speeds, and many large vehicles. pedestrians and non-motor vehicles are surrounded by dangers and are very nervous when passing through.
as early as 2018, when the optimization project of the western section of fengshen avenue was launched, it was planned to build a pedestrian overpass in front of fengshen garden community, but due to various reasons, construction has not been started on time.
in may 2023, the public relations liaison officer "auntie xiuquan" went to the people's congress representative center liaison station in xiuquan street, huadu district to reflect the residents' eager anticipation for the completion of the pedestrian bridge. after receiving the feedback on the problem, the xiuquan street working committee of the standing committee of the huadu district people's congress responded quickly and organized people's congress representatives to conduct on-site investigations many times to understand the specific situation on the spot.
based on the current status of the existing pedestrian bridges in the district, the representatives put forward targeted suggestions that the construction of pedestrian bridges should be more humane, such as laying barrier-free paths on the stairs, adding roofs to the bridges, and installing vertical elevators. after summarizing the representatives' suggestions, the xiuquan sub-district working committee of the huadu district people's congress immediately sent a letter to the huadu district transportation bureau urging them to speed up the construction of pedestrian bridges.
after learning about the people's demands and representatives' suggestions in detail, the huadu district transportation bureau quickly deployed relevant work and officially started construction in june 2023.
during the construction period, the huadu district transportation bureau closed some sections of the road for construction to ensure the safety of citizens' travel. if multiple roads needed to be closed, they chose to conduct temporary closures from 22:00 to 6:00 the next day. notices were issued in advance and detailed operation explanations and traffic instructions were given to minimize the impact on citizens' travel. the people's congress xiuquan street working committee maintained close contact with the district transportation bureau to keep abreast of the latest progress of the project and provide feedback to the public. at the same time, the construction unit also worked day and night to advance the construction progress of the pedestrian bridge, striving to build a pedestrian bridge that satisfies and reassures the public in the shortest time through scientific planning, optimized design, efficient construction, and strict quality control.

in june 2024, with the joint efforts of many parties, the overpass was finally officially put into use. the originally opened intersection has been closed, greatly ensuring the safety of people's travel.
