the press release states that the focus of the collaboration is to develop artificial intelligence (ai) solutions that can significantly improve the accuracy of global weather forecasts. the research will be based on nvidia's open platform "earth-2", which can accelerate climate and weather prediction through interactive ai-enhanced high-resolution simulations.

according to nvidia's official website, climate scientists can access generative ai-based models through earth-2's ai services, which can sample distributions thousands of times to generate large-scale collections of practical high-resolution predictions.

in recent years, nvidia has been promoting its "digital twin" concept, which is to create virtual versions of real things in the virtual world. nvidia calls it "omniverse", and earth-2 is the digital twin of the earth.

g42 said the new climate technology lab in abu dhabi will be a research and development center that advances the two companies’ commitment to environmental sustainability. the facility will “leverage more than 100pb of geophysical data assets to create customized climate and weather solutions.”

nvidia founder and ceo jensen huang also said in a press release, "our collaboration with g42 marks a key step toward using ai to understand and predict climate phenomena with unprecedented accuracy. the earth-2 climate technology laboratory will use the most advanced accelerated computing and ai technologies to promote environmental solutions and benefit millions of people around the world."

analysts believe that the cooperation between g42 and nvidia will help strengthen the uae's ability to become an ai superpower in the middle east. next week, the uae president will pay an official visit to the united states, during which he will meet with us president biden and vice president harris.

a senior uae official said one of the main goals of his trip was to discuss cooperation in technology, including artificial intelligence.

earlier this year, g42 reached an agreement with microsoft to receive a $1.5 billion investment. g42 will work with microsoft to establish two centers in abu dhabi to carry out "responsible" artificial intelligence projects. in addition, openai, which is seeking to expand its business in the gulf region, has also established a partnership with g42.
