according to wang zhenqiang, the current driver of the "mao zedong" locomotive, the "mao zedong" locomotive was born in the gunfire and smoke of the liberation war in 1946. over the past 78 years, the "mao zedong" locomotive has spanned three eras: steam, internal combustion, and electric, and has undergone five locomotive model changes.
initially, the "mao zedong" locomotive was used to pull freight cars. in 2014, it began to pull the z1/2 passenger train and drove the train to chairman mao's hometown. after the route map was adjusted in january this year, the "mao zedong" locomotive was responsible for pulling the k7709/10 passenger train between beijing and handan. wang zhenqiang said: "now, many passengers come to take this train specifically and take photos and check in on the platform. we need to ensure safety and accuracy in all aspects."

so far, the "mao zedong" has experienced 13 drivers and 184 crew members. although the working conditions, environment and tasks are constantly changing, the safety status of the "mao zedong" has not changed for decades. when driving, the locomotive crew members can "keep their hands on the brake handle, keep their eyes on the front, don't lean their backs on the seats, don't talk to each other's faces, don't eat at the same time, and don't be humble when making tea." this extremely strict work standard has trained them to have superb operating skills and is also a magic weapon to ensure driving safety. it is understood that the "mao zedong" locomotive has traveled safely for 12.4 million kilometers in a row, which is equivalent to 310 laps around the earth's equator. it is the production team with the longest establishment time, the best safety performance and the largest number of tasks completed in the national railway. it is known as the "locomotive leader" and the "locomotive among locomotives." in 2019, the "mao zedong" locomotive team was also awarded the national collective title of "the most beautiful struggler."
