on september 9, it was learned from the tongzhou branch of the beijing municipal public security bureau (hereinafter referred to as the tongzhou public security branch) that police officers recently cracked a number of fraud cases involving the sale of discounted universal studios tickets on second-hand platforms. the amount involved was as high as more than 200,000 yuan, and a suspect was criminally detained.
at about 15:00 on august 21, wenjing police station of tongzhou public security bureau received a report from mr. wang that he was cheated when buying universal studios tickets on a second-hand platform. on the same day, at about 17:00, ms. song also called 110 to report that she was cheated when buying universal studios tickets. the situation she described was similar to that of mr. wang. this situation attracted the attention of the police. wenjing police station immediately set up a special team to carry out investigation work.
after questioning, the police found that mr. wang and ms. song were browsing a second-hand platform website and found a merchant who claimed to be able to buy universal studios tickets and hotel accommodation at a discount. after a brief private chat, the two parties added each other on wechat. during the chat, the merchant would occasionally send some photos containing universal studios logo information, fake hotel accommodation order screenshots, and add words such as "there will be a meeting at universal studios soon, what time do you go to work and get off work, and if you don't place an order for discounted tickets, there will be no discounts." the other party gradually let down their guard and believed that they did have the ability to purchase internal discounted ticket prices, and gradually fell into the trap of the scammers.
mr. wang bought tickets for two adults and one child, as well as a night's hotel stay from the person, and transferred more than 5,000 yuan to the other party. ms. song bought tickets for one adult and one child, as well as a full-service express pass, and transferred more than 4,000 yuan in total. after paying the money and looking forward to starting the trip to universal studios, mr. wang and ms. song did not receive the ticket and accommodation order information. after repeated urging, the scammer began to delay with various reasons.
when the victims lost their patience and asked for a refund, the scammers claimed that they could not refund the money because of problems with their bank accounts or abnormal transactions. in order to fudge the victims, the scammers even registered another wechat account, claiming that it was their supplier. when they could no longer delay, they sent this account to the victims and asked them to contact them for a refund, which continued to delay. it was only at this point that the victims realized they had been cheated.
the police found clues from the chat records between the victim and the suspect. after further work, the suspect's identity was quickly locked. the next day, the police successfully arrested the suspect chai. at this time, only 12 hours had passed since mr. wang reported the case. according to chai's confession, he did not have the ability to buy the so-called discounted tickets and hotel accommodation. the reason for posting such messages on the platform was to defraud the victim of money for daily squandering. after investigation, it was found that more than 30 people were defrauded of money by chai in the same way, and the amount involved was as high as more than 200,000 yuan. at present, chai has been criminally detained by the tongzhou public security bureau in accordance with the law, and the case is under further investigation.
the police reminded that when going to universal studios and other attractions, you must purchase tickets through official channels, and do not trust the so-called "internal channels" or "discount prices", etc., so as not to fall into traps and suffer property losses. if you find that you have been deceived, please keep the evidence and call the police in time.
