beijing, september 18 (reporter lai zhikai) personal information is related to personal property privacy and security, and supermarket shopping is closely related to everyone's daily life. with the increasing awareness of personal information protection, consumers are more sensitive to app rights requests during supermarket shopping settlement. today, the reporter learned from a press conference held by the beijing municipal party committee cyberspace administration that in response to the demands of citizens, beijing has further strengthened the protection of personal information in the supermarket shopping field and improved the compliance capabilities and data security protection capabilities of large chain supermarkets in collecting and using personal information.

"beijing has cracked down on qr codes and mini-programs commonly used by citizens in their daily consumption of supermarkets through field research, remote testing, joint interviews, on-site inspections, compliance training, and compliance guidance. we have also urged operators to seriously rectify problems such as forced attention and illegal collection and use of consumer personal information, so that apps can become helpers for quick payment rather than windows into privacy." said a relevant person in charge of the network management department of the beijing municipal cyberspace administration.

the person in charge introduced that in mid-july, the beijing municipal cyberspace administration organized professional forces to conduct on-site research in 68 stores of 11 large supermarket chains. in late july, the beijing municipal cyberspace administration, together with the beijing branch of the national internet emergency center, conducted remote testing of the apps used by nine large supermarket chains in accordance with the "personal information protection law", "methods for identifying illegal and irregular collection and use of personal information by apps", and "case analysis and compliance guidelines for illegal collection and use of consumer personal information by scanning qr code consumption services in beijing".

the test found that some apps have problems to varying degrees, such as excessive collection of personal information, unreasonable privacy policies, and incomplete functions. specifically, they include: forcible pop-up windows requesting location permissions, failure to prompt users to read the privacy policy, forcible requirements to agree to the privacy policies and service agreements of other products of the parent company, and users being unable to cancel their accounts.

in response to the problems found in the remote testing, the beijing municipal cyberspace administration, together with the municipal bureau of commerce and the municipal market supervision bureau, interviewed the relevant companies from august 5 to 6, requiring them to strictly carry out rectification item by item in accordance with the "analysis report on illegal and irregular collection and use of personal information" formed by the test, and complete the rectification within 15 working days. in early september, the beijing municipal cyberspace administration conducted a precise review of the rectified apps, and all of them had met the acceptance standards.

in order to facilitate self-inspection and rectification by supermarket companies and continuously improve the compliance capabilities of supermarket companies in the entire process of personal information processing activities, the beijing municipal party committee cyberspace administration also organized 10 large supermarket chains, including wumart, hema, yonghui, jingkelong, qixian, shouhang, chaoshifa, beijing hualian, huaguan, and xingfu rongyao (a total of 1,049 stores in beijing, covering nearly 130 million members nationwide) to conduct personal information and data security compliance training, using actual cases as references to explain and analyze security risks and protective measures in detail. it is understood that the apps used by the above supermarkets have all passed compliance rectification in terms of collecting and using personal information.
