on september 17, cimc raffles, a subsidiary of cimc group, signed an epc order for 1+1 floating liquefied natural gas production storage and offloading units (flng) with golar lng, a world-leading flng operator. this is cimc's first flng ship, marking a major breakthrough in cimc's high-end marine manufacturing and demonstrating its determination to actively respond to the "3060" dual carbon goals and promote green development.
flng is a floating liquefied natural gas processing platform that can liquefy and store the extracted natural gas directly in sea areas far from land, and then unload it to lng tankers for transportation to all parts of the world. it is one of the most complex, most expensive and most value-added products in marine engineering equipment, and can be called the "new crown jewel" of the shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry.
the flng vessel signed this time is about 390 meters in length and 70 meters in width, with an estimated annual production of 3.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas. it is scheduled to be delivered in 2027, which will expand the golar lng fleet and enhance its competitiveness in the global energy market.
in the past two years, the international natural gas supply and demand structure has changed dramatically, and the demand for energy security in many countries has been increasing. it has gradually become a trend for oil and gas companies to use flng to develop offshore natural gas resources. the next two years are expected to be a critical period for the development of this industry.
golar lng predicts that the number of floating lng units is likely to nearly double in the next five years. by 2030, it is expected that there will be about 18 floating lng units in the world, producing more than 60 million tons of lng per year. currently, there are five flng units in operation in the world, with an annual production of more than 12 million tons.
a relevant person in charge of cimc raffles said that the signing of the new project further consolidated cimc raffles' leading position in the field of offshore equipment, proving that it can handle large and complex projects that meet the highest standards of the industry. the company will continue to deepen its independent research and development and manufacturing of high-end offshore equipment, and is committed to providing high-quality and innovative solutions for the global energy market.
