china daily online, september 18: the u.s. capitol hill website reported on the 17th that a poll released by the sine institute for policy and politics at american universities that day showed that the vast majority of young people said they were worried about the state of democracy in the united states.
the poll was conducted from july 29 to august 9, with 1,214 young people participating.
the poll found that 83% of young people said they strongly (42%) or somewhat (41%) agreed that they were "concerned about the state of our democracy," while another 17% strongly (4%) or somewhat (13%) disagreed.
the survey provides a glimpse into how young americans aged 18 to 34 view the world and the future of their country.
three-quarters of respondents said they were "optimistic and hopeful" when it came to their future, with 30% strongly agreeing with that statement. 45% "somewhat agreed." only 7% strongly disagreed with the statement. 18% somewhat disagreed.
yet a minority of young people share this optimistic view of america’s future.
fifty-three percent of young people said they were not optimistic or hopeful when thinking about the country's future, including 37 percent who somewhat agreed with that view and 16 percent who "strongly" agreed with that view.
less than half (47%) of young people are optimistic and hopeful when thinking about the country's future, with 15% strongly agreeing with this view and 32% somewhat agreeing.
