it home reported on september 18 that starting today, general motors' electric vehicles will be able to use tesla's supercharging network for the first time. last june, general motors signed an agreement with tesla to allow its users to use approximately 17,800 tesla supercharging stations in north america. previously, its competitor ford also reached a similar agreement with tesla.

gm's electric vehicles, including the best-selling chevrolet bolt and recent ultium-platform-based evs from chevrolet, cadillac and gmc, will require an adapter to connect the tesla j3400 (formerly nacs) plug to their ccs1 charging ports.

the adapter is sold separately for $225 and can be purchased through the electric car's smartphone app. drivers also need to use the app to find the location of the supercharger and pay for the charging.

meanwhile, gm will begin producing electric vehicles with their own j3400 ports starting next year.

with the addition of tesla’s supercharger network, gm customers will have access to more than 231,800 public level 2 and dc fast-charging stations across north america, a number that will continue to grow.
