on september 14, the 2024 asian youth rowing championships came to a successful conclusion in hunhe river, shenyang. a total of 19 national rowing youth teams from countries and regions competed fiercely. shao zhiqiang and his teammate wang wenzheng, who represented the chinese team, won the men's u23 open double sculls championship.

shao zhiqiang is from fusheng village, changcheng town, zhucheng city, weifang city. he was born in february 2005. when he was in changcheng primary school, physical education teacher xu qingyu found that he was active, fast running and long jumping, and was a good candidate for sports. in 2016, he was sent to zhucheng competitive sports school to practice track and field with coach zang shunyou. under the careful training of teacher zang shunyou, shao zhiqiang's sports performance improved by leaps and bounds. in 2018, he won the first place in the men's long jump and triple jump in the junior high school group of the zhucheng primary and secondary school track and field games. in 2017 and 2018, he won the first place in the men's long jump and triple jump in the weifang track and field championships.

due to his outstanding performance, shao zhiqiang was selected by coach zou lihua to join the weifang sports school rowing team in october 2019. after entering weifang sports school, shao zhiqiang redoubled his efforts and joined the shandong provincial rowing team in the same year. he won the first place in the shandong provincial rowing championships in 2020 and 2021, the first place in the rowing finals of the 25th shandong provincial games in 2022, and the u19 men's double sculls championship in the national rowing championships in november 2022.

in february 2023, he was recommended to qufu normal university as an outstanding athlete of shandong province. in november 2023, he joined the national rowing training team and won the men's u19 double sculls championship and the bronze medal in the four-man double sculls at the national rowing youth championships (june 2023), the double sculls championship at the national rowing youth championships (july 2024), the 12th place at the world rowing championships (september 8, 2024), and the u23 open double sculls championship at the asian youth rowing championships.
