lockheed martin recently unveiled the agm-158 xr (jassm-xr), a new air-to-ground missile family that is based on the jassm-er and lrasm, but has a longer range and greater power.

the agm-158 xr retains the unique trapezoidal appearance and stealth design of the jassm series of missiles, but is larger in size, which enables it to carry more fuel and a heavier warhead, allowing the carrier to launch missiles at a safer distance and cause greater damage to the enemy.

it is expected that the range of the agm-158xr will exceed that of the tomahawk cruise missile, which is about 1,600 kilometers. the lockheed martin website stated that the new stealth missile will bring the united states' strike capability to a new level.

the agm-158 xr is designed to be compatible with multiple platforms. in addition to the f-16, all aircraft capable of using jassm or lrasm (such as f-35, f-22, f-15) can carry this missile. lockheed martin is also studying the possibility of deploying the missile on transport aircraft and considering developing a version launched from the ground.
