it is understood that starting from this year, the national health commission will organize 44 commission-affiliated hospitals, national medical centers, and national regional medical centers to form national medical teams to carry out medical tours every year. the medical tours will cover all 13 provinces in the west and 4 provinces in the central region. at the same time, provincial health commissions across the country will establish a provincial medical tour system, with public hospitals as the backbone, to organize and implement medical tours in areas with weak medical capabilities, and accelerate the expansion and sinking of high-quality medical resources and regional balanced layout.

according to reports, each national medical team has no fewer than five members, mainly medical personnel with senior professional titles, and appropriately equipped with management personnel. the medical tour areas are mainly in prefecture-level cities in central and western provinces such as tibet and xinjiang, especially in key counties for national rural revitalization, counties with concentrated ethnic minorities, counties on land borders, and counties with weak medical service capabilities. the medical tour lasts no less than three weeks, of which no less than two weeks are spent working in the county. the medical tour includes disease diagnosis and treatment, health education, medical personnel training, diagnosis and treatment technology guidance, and the construction of a telemedicine collaboration network, so as to bring high-quality medical services to the people and enhance their sense of gain from medical treatment.

in 2011, the former ministry of health organized three ministry-affiliated hospitals, namely peking union medical college hospital, zhongshan hospital affiliated to fudan university, and the first affiliated hospital of sun yat-sen university, to form 19 national medical teams to carry out the first batch of national medical team medical tours in the "old, young, remote, and poor" areas of 18 provinces.
