"cross the yangtze river and liberate all of china." in april 1949, a million-strong chinese people's liberation army, stationed on a thousand-mile front from hukou, jiangxi province in the west to jiangyin, jiangsu province in the east, launched the magnificent battle of crossing the yangtze river.
at the critical moment of the liberation of nanjing, the small steamer "jingdian" originally used to transport power coal by the capital power plant cut through the waves and transported the first batch of pla officers and soldiers across the yangtze river.
afterwards, the boatmen took turns to transport more than 1,400 pla officers and soldiers across the river. this is how the boat got its reputation as the "first boat to cross the river". its story begins here:

after the war of liberation, the "jingdian" steamer once again made great contributions in flood control, rescue operations, and icebreaking and navigation.
today, it is displayed in the square of the memorial hall of the victory of crossing the yangtze river, still silently telling visitors about the past.
