the crisscrossing pipelines and towering chimneys indicate the "old" identity of the industrial park, while the throngs of people and dynamic music indicate the "new" image of the park. on the afternoon of september 7, more than 90 teachers and students from renmin university of china, beijing normal university and beijing institute of fashion technology came to 798·751 park to explore how this old industrial park regained its vitality in the new era.
this is the fourth stop of the 2024 park tour theme day event, which is hosted by the publicity department of the municipal party committee and the education working committee of the municipal party committee, and undertaken by the municipal cyberspace administration of china, the beijing news and other units. in this year's park tour, teachers and students from 23 universities in beijing will "enter" the cultural industry parks through various activities, and while feeling the vitality and unique charm of the capital's cultural development in the new era, they will also make suggestions and contribute to promoting the high-quality development of cultural industry parks.

"on our left is the iconic power square of the 798·751 park, and on our right is the old furnace district square. although this square is currently being used as a parking lot, we also held a grand beer festival here in the summer." in the 798·751 park, the capital's college students, led by the park's tour guide, walked onto the "sky corridor" converted from gas pipelines, learning along the way about the old appearance of each building in the park and its new uses after the renovation.
the 798·751 park was rebuilt on the basis of the factory buildings that were retired by beijing zhengdong electronic power group co., ltd. (formerly the 751 factory). it is a cultural industrial park with creative design as the leading industry. it covers an area of 220,000 square meters and has indoor and outdoor spaces such as "79 cans", "97 cans", conduction space, fashion corridor, 751 library, power square, locomotive square, and train block. this "park tour" activity has carefully designed a tour route consisting of four parts: "new look of industrial relics", "overlooking steel structure from the sky", "china's fashion vane", and "new consumer business circle".
at the end of the "sky corridor", the instructor pointed to two huge round tanks in the distance and said to the students, "do you see the light blue tanks in the distance? one is called "tank 79" and the other is called "tank 97". they are named after the year they were built. they are the first and last gas tanks in beijing." the instructor introduced that these two gas tanks were previously responsible for the gas supply of the entire jiuxianqiao area. with the development of the times, gas tanks have withdrawn from the stage of history. and "tank 79" and "tank 97" have become the only two gas tanks left in beijing. today, these two large tanks have a "new identity" and have become the venue for many companies to hold press conferences.
the day of the visit was the 2025 spring/summer china international fashion week, and the models walked the runway in the former gas tanks. on that day, the crowds outside the "79 tank" and "97 tank" were shoulder to shoulder, and it was very lively. the old industrial equipment was transformed into a fashion show, and the students praised the clever reuse of abandoned factories. it also made the students, especially those majoring in the beijing institute of fashion technology, look forward to the ongoing fashion week show. although they could not walk into the big tank to watch the show, the students still got a glimpse of the show through the real-time broadcast screen outside the tank.

the last stop of the group tour was the locomotive square of the 798·751 park, where a black locomotive numbered "0751" stood quietly. around the square, many fashion brands and art exhibitions have settled in, greatly enriching the new consumption formats of the park and becoming a gathering place for "trendy" culture. "this locomotive is an abandoned train that we specially transported from shanghai. today, we have rearranged the interior of some train carriages and removed some unnecessary settings, turning it into a new consumption and dining place." said the tour guide.
"can you guess how many events our park holds every year?" the guide said that in 2023, the 798·751 park held a total of 5,000 events, including the 751 international design festival, drama summer beijing drama carnival, 751 han culture festival, and various exhibitions. holding the "park tour" passport, the "park experience officers" entered 798cube, tang contemporary art center (beijing's first and second spaces), deep digital museum, encounter museum and other venues, and visited the highly rated and popular exhibitions in 798·751 park, including "bipolar ellipse: emotional particles and mysterious overflow", "frog in a sad world", "small is still beautiful?", and "love·time - immersive qing palace series exhibition: watches", and felt the charm of diverse cultural arts in exhibitions of different artistic styles.

the locomotive square left a deep impression on gong chen, a second-year graduate student majoring in accounting at renmin university of china. the ancient artistic architecture has a unique heavy metal and artistic feel, which is in sharp contrast to the new consumer scene full of fashion around it. "the 'park tour' event enriched our extracurricular life and also taught us a lot," said gong chen.
jia kangning, a second-year graduate student majoring in ecology at beijing normal university, told reporters that he was deeply impressed by the reconstruction and reuse of the old factory buildings during today's visit. "after listening to the introduction of the teacher, i learned that the entire park has retained many unique industrial facilities and combined them with the current new functions. the overall feeling presented is very much like the literary and artistic atmosphere of a cultural industry park." jia kangning said that the "park tour" activity allows college students to enter the art park and feel the rich cultural atmosphere of beijing more deeply, which is a carrier of aesthetic education.
chen kaixin, a second-year graduate student majoring in luxury design and management at the beijing institute of fashion technology, mentioned that as a student of the beijing institute of fashion technology, he has a deep emotional connection with the 798·751 park. yan mingdan, deputy general manager of beijing qijiuba culture and technology co., ltd., introduced that in addition to the on-site visit, the "park tour" event also organized a number of seminars to allow students to make suggestions for the development of the park. "this is a very good opportunity for interaction. students may ask some questions and we can get some pertinent feedback from them." yan mingdan said that the "z generation" is a group that all brands in the park pay close attention to. through the "park tour" event, students can communicate directly with the park.
