china taiwan network reported on september 11 that the 2026 "nine-in-one" county and city mayor elections on the island have already begun. according to taiwan's "china times news network" report, an exclusive taiwanese media poll showed that in taipei city, the dpp's possible candidate and legislator wang shijian has the highest support among possible candidates of the same party with 34.5%. however, if he faces the current taipei mayor jiang wanan of the kuomintang, he will lag behind jiang wanan's 53.7% with 32.3% support.

the poll showed that the dpp's possible candidates for the 2026 taipei mayoral election had support of 34.5% for wang shih-chien, 18.2% for lin chia-lung, and 17% for wu si-yao. the poll also pointed out that if they were to face the current mayor, chiang wan-an, lin chia-lung would have 28.1% to chiang wan-an's 57%, wu si-yao would have 27.9% to chiang wan-an's 59.1%, and wang shih-chien would have 32.3% to chiang wan-an's 52.7%. among them, wang shih-chien had the smallest gap with chiang wan-an, making him the most promising candidate in the dpp. (editor: zhang ling)
