the u.s. house of representatives announced on september 9 that it passed hr8333, the biosecure act, by 306 votes to 81. the bill restricts u.s. federal agencies from doing business with foreign biotechnology companies on the grounds of "national security" and names five chinese companies, namely, the chinese contract research organization (cro) giant wuxi apptec, its sister company wuxi biologics, bgi group, bgi's affiliated company bgi intelligence, and bgi's subsidiary complete genomics.

these chinese companies have denied that they pose any security threat to the u.s. according to the relevant u.s. legislative process, before the bill officially becomes law, it needs to be voted on and passed by the senate and the house of representatives, and the versions passed by the two houses must be reconciled and finally submitted to the u.s. president for signature.

after the bill was passed, the company firmly believes that wuxi apptec has not, is not, and will not pose a national security risk to the united states or any other country in the past, and has not been sanctioned by any u.s. government agency.
