this year, apple experienced a difficult start in the chinese market. sales volume declined at the beginning of the year, and apple and domestic distributors lowered prices several times. it was ultimately through aggressive price discounts that apple was able to stabilize its domestic market performance in the first half of the year.recently there have been reports that apple is betting that the next generation of iphones equipped with ai capabilities will be popular, and has asked suppliers to prepare parts for approximately 88 million to 90 million smartphones, exceeding last year's initial order of about 80 million new iphones.increasing the inventory of the iphone 16 series seems to mean that apple’s confidence in the new phone has increased.

however, apple's ai leadership and uniqueness soon ushered in challenges from other manufacturers. honor ceo zhao ming recently announced at the 2024 berlin consumer electronics show (ifa) in germany that the industry's first cross-application open ecological intelligent agent (ai agent) will be released globally. it does not require application adaptation and modification, can understand the user's complex intentions, and automatically execute cross-application decisions after analysis.

at the meeting, zhao ming demonstrated the functions of honor ai agent. taking "one-click closing of automatic renewal" as an example, many apps on the market currently have their cancellation functions hidden in the four-level and five-level interfaces within the app, making it difficult for users to successfully complete the cancellation. however, after activating honor ai agent, users can directly ask it to check which automatic renewal items are available through a one-sentence command. after receiving user requests, it will automatically jump to wechat and alipay (because these are common payment channels) to check all apps and display the query results. it is reported that honor ai agent will be commercially used on its magic 7 series.

the complexity of calling the system's own services and operating two different applications, wechat and alipay, is self-evident. simply installing ai into major apps is not enough. in fact, honor's ai development path is similar to apple's, both of which have infiltrated ai capabilities into the entire operating system. however, the difference is thatapple adopts a closed ecosystem and is unwilling to allow third-party apps to intervene, while honor chooses an open ecosystem.

"compared with apple's closed system, the open ecosystem of china's internet and ai service ecosystem is easier to integrate with the massive internet ai services." zhao ming said: "in the future, we will continue to cooperate with microsoft, google and other internet partners and ai partners."

talking about apple's ai path, zhao ming believes that "apple's ai solution will make the entire industry more sober. if a mobile phone manufacturer only integrates functions such as third-party ai translation, it cannot be called an ai phone. a true ai phone should have human-computer interaction capabilities such as intent recognition like ai agent. this is the core value of edge ai. imagining (making ai phones) like fast food is counterproductive."

in fact, one year after the launch of ai mobile phones, the current ai functions on the terminal are still limited to object elimination, intelligent image extraction, content summary, etc. people are looking forward to more ai applications that can change their lives.
