he tianjian liked painting since childhood. in his early years, he understood the principles of painting through on-site sketching, was good at using ink and water, paid attention to the layers of color, and often used complex colors. he was particularly good at green landscapes, and he evolved his own style, which is bold and dramatic, and full of the flavor of the times.

looking back at the beginning of the revival of the shanghai school of painting, there were only about twenty people who could be ranked in the early days, represented by four people: ren bonian, wu changshuo, xugu and pu zuoying. their achievements in painting art include flower, bird and figure paintings, which are a link between the past and the future. unfortunately, landscape painting has become their weak point. among the four, even if pu zuoying's ink landscape painting can be regarded as a top-grade one, it is difficult to escape the suspicion of frivolous and careless brushwork, and cannot achieve success. including zhang zixiang, wu qiunong, lu lianfu and others who are engaged in landscape painting creation, they are unfortunately confined to the "four wangs" and failed to stand out. it was not until the 1930s that he tianjian jumped up and created new ideas and a wide range of fields in the creation of shanghai school landscape painting, and made some achievements and breakthroughs. in the painting world, he was full of fresh air and opened up a brand new method.
