chongqing, a national central city in china, is the economic center of the upper reaches of the yangtze river; germany, located at the "crossroads" of europe, is recognized as the "engine" of the european economy.
this year marks the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between china and germany, and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between china and germany. as an open highland in the western inland area, chongqing has become increasingly open and cooperative with germany. in the past 10 years, germany's direct investment in chongqing has increased from 1.28 billion euros in 2014 to 2.3 billion euros in 2023, accounting for nearly 20% of germany's total annual investment in china.
following the visit of german chancellor schulz to chongqing in april this year, a delegation of heads of 25 german companies and institutions, including germany's man energy company and the north rhine-westphalia automotive industry cluster, came to chongqing on september 5-6, and visited yongchuan district to exchange development experiences and expand cooperation space.

the german delegation praised the "made in chongqing" cars
on the afternoon of september 5, at great wall motors' yongchuan smart factory, a delegation of german companies witnessed the entire production process of great wall motors, from parts to complete vehicles.
in the finished car display area, uwe kurt fritsch, general manager of germany's uwe fritsch strategic investment agency and former member of the volkswagen group's global supervisory board, carefully looked at the cool body and spacious passenger space of the "great wall cannon" and praised the "made in chongqing" cars. "chongqing's automobile industry is developing rapidly and is very competitive in the global market! i want to drive this car away now!"
on the morning of september 6, the german business delegation visited the sino-german (chongqing) intelligent equipment industrial park, liebherr (china) co., ltd., eswe (chongqing) machine tool co., ltd. and other german companies settled in yongchuan.
"currently, many german companies developing in yongchuan have good prospects, which makes us very much look forward to finding new cooperation opportunities in yongchuan." after visiting the sino-german industrial park, heiko martin, general manager of germany's transfact co., ltd., is full of expectations for investing in yongchuan to carry out project cooperation.
vocational education is another key focus of the german delegation’s visit. entering the chongqing city vocational college training base, the delegation carefully observed the students’ operations, took out their mobile phones to take photos, and expressed their expectation to carry out in-depth exchanges and cooperation with chongqing vocational school.
after two days of inspection, seven german companies including innovat co., ltd. and all-tight co., ltd. extended an olive branch to yongchuan companies, hoping that the two sides could reach project cooperation in the manufacturing of precision injection molded parts and automotive fasteners.

german companies reach a package cooperation agreement with yongchuan
on the afternoon of september 6, the german enterprise delegation and the yongchuan district government jointly held a symposium on "german smart manufacturing enterprises entering yongchuan" in 2024.
at the meeting, both sides introduced their own advantages and willingness to cooperate. representatives from various industrial parks in yongchuan, german companies developing in yongchuan, and german companies visiting yongchuan all exchanged views and sent signals of cooperation.
a project signing ceremony was also held at the meeting. yongchuan district reached a consensus on cooperation with china international investment promotion center (germany), sw machine tool co., ltd., oscar kammer vocational school, transfact co., ltd., etc. on investment promotion mechanisms, smart manufacturing industry projects, vocational education, etc., and signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
"next, we will continue to increase the attraction of european manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises, seize the opportunity of building an inland open comprehensive hub, continue to give play to the advantages of open platforms such as the sino-german intelligent industrial park and the cross-straits industrial cooperation zone, accelerate industrial agglomeration, and ensure that foreign investment will grow by more than 20% annually in the next five years." a relevant person in charge of the yongchuan district commerce commission said.

"using business to attract investment" around the german enterprise industry chain
as one of chongqing's major industrial zones, yongchuan's rich "manufacturing genes" are an important reason why it attracts a large number of german companies to settle down.
in the first half of this year, yongchuan district introduced a total of 66 manufacturing projects with a contract investment of 41.28 billion yuan. the contract amount and the amount of funds in place in the manufacturing industry ranked first in the city, among which there were a considerable number of "german-based" enterprise projects.
"we implement the policy of 'using business to attract investment' around the industrial chains of key enterprises and increase incremental investment through existing assets, which is a highlight of our industrial investment promotion." the person in charge of the investment promotion department of yongchuan district gave an example, saying that in february this year, the gear processing machine tool and automation system assembly production base of germany's liebherr, a fortune 500 company, settled in yongchuan, further strengthening yongchuan's manufacturing strength.
yongchuan has always maintained a coordinated development rhythm with german companies - yongchuan vocational education center joined hands with germany's gfm education group to establish the "chongqing sino-german high-skilled talent training center"; germany's siemens signed a vocational education cooperation agreement with the yongchuan district government; the sino-german (chongqing) intelligent industrial park was listed in yongchuan national hi-tech zone, attracting a package of german high-end cnc machine tool companies such as eswe machine tools, degen intelligent equipment, and emag group to settle down.
nowadays, a large number of "made in germany" products have not only "blossomed" in yongchuan, but also promoted the increasingly apparent agglomeration effect of yongchuan's manufacturing industry, attracting many upstream and downstream enterprises in the equipment manufacturing industry chain to settle in.
