china youth daily client news (china youth daily, china youth network reporter yang jie) on september 6, the 4th international forum on big data for sustainable development (fbas 2024) was held in beijing. the forum aims to discuss innovative solutions for the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development through digital technology and share practical experiences in addressing data challenges for the sustainable development goals (sdgs).
csaba korosi, president of the 77th united nations general assembly, pointed out in his report that achieving the transformation to sustainable development is not only feasible but also an inevitable requirement of the times, which requires all countries to take on their responsibilities and strengthen international cooperation.
guo huadong, director of the international research center for big data on sustainable development, pointed out in the report that when deeply analyzing the challenges facing the sustainable development agenda, big data and technological innovation are the core driving forces for promoting this global agenda. by strengthening data collection, analysis and sharing, and using cutting-edge technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence, in-depth analysis of sdgs-related data can be conducted to provide a scientific basis for policy making and resource allocation. looking ahead to the next seven years, guo huadong believes that the key lies in consolidating the construction of digital infrastructure.
at the opening ceremony of the forum, the international research center for sustainable development big data (sdg center) released the "sustainable development science satellite 1 (sdgsat-1 satellite) thermal infrared image atlas", "sdgsat-1 satellite low-light image atlas (english version)" and "sdgsat-1 satellite low-light city group map".
among them, the "sdgsat-1 satellite thermal infrared image atlas" is the world's first remote sensing thermal infrared image atlas, and the "sdgsat-1 satellite twilight city cluster map" is the world's first data product showing high-resolution nighttime light scenes of 10 major urban agglomerations around the world. the sustainable development science satellite 1 (sdgsat-1) is the first satellite of the sustainable development satellite constellation planned by the sdg center. since its launch in 2021, it has achieved a series of results. the atlas released this time shows different types of landscapes and socio-economic development characterization indexes of 10 representative urban agglomerations around the world, providing a new perspective for global sustainable development from the perspective of spatial detection of interactions between humans and nature, supplementing quantitative indicators for global urban sustainable development and standardization research, and thus making due contributions to bridging the data divide and promoting the implementation of the 2030 agenda and global development initiatives.
