on the 6th, ukrainian president zelensky arrived in germany to attend a meeting of the ukrainian defense liaison group led by western countries.

during a meeting with the us secretary of defense, zelensky again called on western countries to allow ukraine to use long-range weapons provided by the west to strike military targets on russian territory. us secretary of defense austin announced that the united states will provide ukraine with a new batch of military support worth $250 million.

u.s. defense secretary austin said the $250 million in military support includes armed vehicles, anti-tank weapons, anti-aircraft weapons, and ammunition for rocket systems and artillery. austin also summarized the support that the united states and western countries have provided to ukraine's air force over the past year, including the provision of f-16 fighter jets and training of fighter pilots.

however, austin did not explicitly support ukrainian president zelensky's call to lift "restrictions" on the use of long-range weapons to strike russian territory. he said that using weapons provided by the united states to carry out long-range strikes on targets in russia would not reverse the situation in the russian-ukrainian conflict, and russia has moved precision-guided bombs beyond the range of the u.s.-provided army tactical missile system.

after the ukrainian crisis escalated in february 2022, the united states and other nato countries provided ukraine with a large amount of military support. according to the associated press, the total amount of u.s. military support to ukraine exceeded 55.7 billion u.s. dollars, and the sophistication, range and destructive power of weapons supported to ukraine have gradually increased, and restrictions on ukraine's use of u.s.-made weapons have been repeatedly relaxed. russia has always criticized the united states and western countries for "adding fuel to the fire" by supplying weapons to ukraine, which does not help resolve the conflict.
