on september 5, jd power officially released the 2024 china initial quality studysm (iqs) in shanghai. the study shows that in 2024, the industry's overall average initial quality will have 212 pp100 problems per 100 vehicles, an increase of 8 pp100 from 2023, and the overall quality level of new vehicles has declined. from the overall trend of the industry in the past three years, the overall quality of the industry has remained relatively stable. affected by the increase in complaints about design problems, the 2024 industry pp100 has increased by 8.4 pp100 compared to last year, and quality complaints have increased to the 2022 pp100 level.
in terms of the performance of each brand, porsche (192 pp100) won the first place in new car quality among luxury brands, lexus (207 pp100) and cadillac (211 pp100) ranked second and third respectively; gac honda (195 pp100) ranked first in new car quality among mainstream brands for five consecutive years, dongfeng honda (198 pp100) ranked second, and gac toyota (200 pp100) ranked third; chery (203 pp100) won the first place in new car quality among chinese independent brands, geely (204 pp100) and gac trumpchi (206 pp100) ranked second and third respectively.
specifically for models, a total of 20 models from 15 brands won 18 awards in the 2024 china new car quality study. among them, dongfeng honda brand won awards at the model level for honda civic and honda elysion, gac honda brand won awards at the model level for honda fit, honda accord and honda crown road; mercedes-benz brand won awards at the model level for mercedes-benz e-class and mercedes-benz s-class; saic volkswagen brand won awards at the model level for volkswagen lingdu l and volkswagen touran. other models that won awards in their respective market segments include buick envision s, changan cs35 plus, chery tiggo 7 plus, volkswagen golf, gac trumpchi shadow cool, land rover range rover, lexus nx, mg 5, nissan tiida, porsche macan, volvo s60, etc.
it is reported that this year marks the 25th consecutive year that jd power has conducted the china initial quality study (iqs), and it is also the fifth year that jd power has simultaneously launched the new iqs platform in china and the united states. the study focuses on the quality problems encountered by owners of fuel vehicles with a car ownership period of 2 to 6 months. the quality of new cars is expressed as the average number of problems per 100 vehicles (pp100). the lower the score, the fewer problems and the better the quality.
jd power's research also shows that domestic brands have gradually narrowed the quality gap with mainstream international brands over the past three years, and quality complaints about luxury brands have increased for two consecutive years, with a total increase of 21 pp100 in two years, and their advantages over other brands have been lost. in the past three years, the quality of domestic brands in the driver assistance category has tended to be stable, and their lead over mainstream international and luxury brands is also obvious; while mainstream international brands have gradually improved the quality issues in the configuration/control system/dashboard category over the past three years, which has become their main advantage over domestic brands and luxury brands, and also made mainstream international brands 4 pp100 better than luxury brands for the first time in three years.
