according to the hong kong observatory, at 7 a.m. today, super typhoon makar was about 390 kilometers south-southwest of hong kong, that is, near 19.2 degrees north latitude and 112.5 degrees east longitude. it is expected to move westward or west-northwestward at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour, crossing the northern part of the south china sea and moving roughly towards hainan island to the leizhou peninsula.

the hong kong observatory said that the gale or storm signal no. 8 will remain in effect until at least 12 noon today. the observatory will assess the timing of changing the signal to strong wind signal no. 3 in the afternoon, depending on the direction of "makar" and the wind changes in hong kong.

"severe weather shutdown" will take effect next month

regarding the arrangement to maintain normal market trading in bad weather that will take effect soon, hong kong exchanges and clearing limited chief executive officer chan yik ting once said, "don't underestimate this move. this measure will allow investors to continue trading without disrupting their risk management plans. this will be a key measure to ensure that we can provide services to investors during trading hours in any weather."
