china taiwan net, september 6th. according to taiwan media reports, people's party chairman ko wen-je was ordered to be detained and denied access to visitors due to the jinghua city scandal during his tenure as mayor of taipei. yesterday (5th) afternoon, the scene of him being handcuffed and put into a prison van by taiwanese judicial police and sent to the taipei detention center shocked all walks of life.

according to taiwanese media reports, the taipei district court judge believed that ko wen-je was repeatedly reminded by his staff that there were doubts in the jinghua city case, but he still insisted on doing it. in 2021, when taipei city councilor miao boya questioned him, it was shown that ko wen-je had long been aware of the high plot ratio of jinghua city, and he was suspected of committing a serious crime of profiteering. there are suspected unknown funds in the accounts of ko wen-je's wife and children, but whether they are bribes remains to be determined. in addition, when the taipei district procuratorate searched his home, ko wen-je and his wife took an hour to open the door, and ko wen-je's mobile phone had obvious signs of deleting conversation records. therefore, the first ruling of returning without bail was overturned, and it was believed that ko's suspicion of crime was serious and there was a risk of collusion and destruction of evidence. he was detained and denied access to visitors, and he could appeal.

at 5:50 pm on the 5th, ke wenzhe walked into the prison van with handcuffs on his hands, looking lonely, and did not say a word the whole time. he arrived at the taipei detention center at about 6:30. at 8:15 am this morning, ke wenzhe's lawyer zheng shenyuan appeared at the taipei detention center, and it is not ruled out that he was preparing to file an appeal.

taiwanese lawyer lin zhiqun posted on social media that ko wen-je is in detention and is not allowed to see anyone. his lawyer can file an appeal. if the taiwan "high court" rejects the appeal, ko wen-je will be detained for two months. however, in general, as long as the reason for detention has not disappeared, the detention will be extended, usually until the prosecution or even the first-instance judgment is made, which is at least a year. "so before the end of next year, ko wen-je may have to say goodbye to everyone temporarily." in response, lin zhiqun also said that people's party legislator huang kuo-chang may become the "biggest winner."

hong kong's "china review news agency" published a commentary today pointing out that the upcoming turmoil, unrest and chaos in taiwan's political situation seems foreseeable.
