according to a new survey conducted by phoenix.com technology on september 6, beijing time, americans' support for a potential tiktok ban has declined compared to 18 months ago. the biden administration has asked bytedance to sell tiktok's us assets by january next year, otherwise the app will be banned.

survey data released by the pew research center on thursday showed that only 32% of american adults support banning tiktok.last fall, 38% of american adults supported a ban, and in march 2023, 50% of american adults supported a ban.meanwhile, half of americans now doubt whether tiktok will be banned, calling it "very unlikely or somewhat unlikely."

pew found that americans' views on tiktok remain divided along partisan lines. republicans and republican-leaning independents are more likely to say tiktok threatens national security and are nearly twice as likely to support a ban as democrats and democratic-leaning independents.but even so, bipartisan support for a ban has fallen by nearly 20 percentage points since march 2023.

this survey shows that in the past year and a half, many americans have changed their stance on tiktok.this includes the past five months after biden signed a law forcing tiktok to divest. the survey did not ask respondents why they changed their views. former us president trump tried to ban tiktok in 2020, but now his attitude has reversed and he created a tiktok account earlier this year. us vice president harris also used tiktok to campaign for the november election. biden also created his own tiktok account.
