the lido area is one of the earliest international neighborhoods in beijing. after 40 years of development, it has now become a beautiful "urban living room" in chaoyang district.

at the end of 2020, the first phase of the urban renewal project in the lido area was completed. through the transformation, a comprehensive renewal from space to function to urban management was achieved. the comprehensive growth of economic industries, commercial offices, human vitality, spatial environment, operation management and grassroots governance in the region has laid the foundation for the wide-area development of the core commercial office hinterland of jiangtai, jiuxianqiao, wangjing and dongba areas.

in order to solve the problem of regional traffic congestion and further improve the overall environment, the beijing development and reform commission recently approved the implementation plan for the public space renovation and upgrading project in the demonstration section of taijiuxianqiao area.

with the implementation of this project, the complete urban renewal and transformation of the lido area, which lasted nearly 8 years, is about to come to an end. what highlights have emerged in this upgrading and transformation? what new experience will it bring to the public? let's take a look with the development and reform commission~

reshape traffic order and revitalize public space

the project is located in the jiangtai jiuxianqiao area of ​​chaoyang district, beijing. it mainly renovates the west section of jiangtai road and the lido section of jiangtai west road.

among them, the western section of jiangtai road starts from the airport expressway in the west and ends at jiuxianqiao road in the east, with a total length of 1.3 kilometers and an area of ​​about 101,200 square meters; the lido section of jiangtai west road starts from the airport expressway in the west and ends at fangyuan west road in the east, with a total length of 0.65 kilometers and an area of ​​about 15,100 square meters.

the main construction contents include:

widen the motorway lane of jiangtai road

the motor vehicle lane will be widened from two lanes, one up and one down, to four lanes, two up and two down, to solve the congestion problem and connect the northeast fourth ring road and the fifth ring road;

construction of slow-moving systems and parking facilities

reconstruct the slow-moving, parking and walking systems to create a street order with orderly slow-moving and parking and active and safe walking;

improve public space and landscape environment

form an urban vibrant street corridor that integrates public space, landscape ecology, vitality facilities, and roadside interfaces;

upgrading industrial office and commercial formats

it connects the lido business district and the wangjing business district, drives the improvement of people's livelihood in jiuxianqiao, jiangtai, wangjing and dongba areas, upgrades commercial industries and office formats, and enhances the overall attractiveness and influence of the larger region's business environment.

the development and reform commission learned that the project will start construction at the end of 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

three major design strategies, comprehensive transformation and upgrade
promoting the construction of complete streets

as an important channel for residents in jiangtai, jiuxianqiao and wangjing areas to travel, the renovation and upgrading of jiangtai road will greatly ease regional traffic congestion and promote the construction of a complete street by reshaping the interface between motor vehicles, slow traffic, pedestrians, public spaces and streets.

create a fun and vibrant neighborhood

we will gradually build jiangtai road into a "city painting that citizens can slowly experience", and make the street a "corridor" and a carrier of urban vitality.

realizing spatial diversity and symbiosis

based on the functional attributes of the street, spatial plans are formulated in sections, one regional portal square is built, and three urban business squares are set up along jiangtai road; four linear public spaces along the street in residential areas are improved; the public environment space of jiangtai road is divided into entrance square section, portal business section, residential business section, mixed function section, and residential vitality section, to create a people's livelihood, office and tourist environment with natural ecology, humanistic harmony, and diverse places.

entrance square section: city gateway square - a "square space shared by all people" with "high quality + full functions + all-time".

gateway business section: urban business plaza along the street - "open and shared" "green space", creating a natural, harmonious and beautiful international urban atmosphere.

residential and commercial section: open and shared green space that showcases the commercial and residential image of the neighborhood.

mixed-function section: in combination with the functional requirements of tsinghua high school, united family hospital, catering street and foreign-related apartments, a cross-street passage is set up, a gathering square is reserved, and traffic flow lines, walking and crowd gathering space are reasonably organized to achieve borderless connectivity.

residential vitality section: to make up for the problem of "single function and lack of vitality" in old residential areas, combine sports and leisure, parent-child entertainment, and healthy communication functional spaces to create an open, green, and shared street for all.

it is worth mentioning that the implementation of this project will bring the urban renewal project in lido district to a successful conclusion, promote the full implementation of phased renovation, further realize the comprehensive renewal of road traffic and public space, comprehensive renewal of building reconstruction and renovation and expansion, comprehensive renewal of industrial formats to commercial formats, comprehensive renewal of ecological environment and natural environment, comprehensive renewal of management and operation and regional governance, comprehensive renewal of residential population and office population, comprehensive renewal of the integration of fiscal funds and social funds, comprehensive renewal of steady growth of investment and taxation, and help the region to grow organically.
