xiaolu from cangji primary school is one of the many children in difficult situations who have received assistance. her mother left home one month after giving birth to her and has not been seen since. her father has been working away from home for six years and has not been heard from since. like many children from difficult families, she doesn't like to talk or laugh and is always silent. when facing visiting volunteers, she just leans against the wall and observes silently. her grandmother said that when xiaolu was a child, she often asked, "do mom and dad not love me or want me anymore?" while she was talking, her grandmother burst into tears, but xiaolu had no expression on her face. perhaps hiding all her emotions is her way of trying to protect herself.
difficulties are not only financial difficulties, but also an invisible but impermeable wall in the hearts of children, behind which are more complex social situations and children's psychology. therefore, the "one tomorrow" rural education project has been approached from both ends of "funding" and "assistance" since the project was established: on the one hand, personal donations are used to provide living allowances for children; on the other hand, through multi-level cooperation between the project and the school, all-round teaching, psychological counseling and other integrated hardware and software support are provided to children. at the same time, by organizing company volunteers to visit on-site, carry out research on the recipients, verify the family information of the children in difficult situations, use the donations more accurately and efficiently, and understand the needs of the children hidden behind the materials in face-to-face communication, and provide guiding suggestions for further work.
cangji primary school where xiaolu works is the first school to start supporting work in huatai securities' "one tomorrow" rural education project. with the help and support of the project, it has carried out a variety of student aid activities. "the children open their hearts and learn new knowledge in activities such as painting, playing chess, dancing, and playing ball. not only do the volunteers of yixin huatai come to the school to help the children every year, but it also encourages various institutions such as the provincial, municipal and district civil affairs, women's federations, public security, banks, the municipal people's congress, and the municipal charity association to carry out student aid work in our school in different ways." said the principal zhu qibing.
under the guidance of the project teacher, xiaolu, who had never touched painting before, learned to use watercolor and oil pastels. her work "driving a spaceship to visit an alien planet" won the first prize in the central primary school art competition, and her paper-cutting paintings also shined. xiaolu's story is a microcosm of countless stories in the "one tomorrow" children in need funding program. over the past six years, the program has mobilized about 120,000 people to donate 2.986 million yuan and funded a total of 1,119 children in need.

silent and sensitive personalities like xiaolu are not uncommon among children in difficult situations. in order to improve the mental health level of rural children in difficult situations in a more systematic way, huatai securities cooperated with universities such as nanjing normal university, using the lcc working model of "listening, connection, and co-creation" to guide and accompany children to recognize themselves through mental health lectures, teacher group counseling, student group counseling, co-creation of drama, co-creation of sports, correspondence with college student volunteers, and other rich forms, so as to establish inner understanding and trust between children and parents, teachers, and schools, and help build a mental health work system for rural children in difficult situations.
in the practice of helping schools, huang xiaoshan, a partner of the "one tomorrow" project and an associate professor at the school of social development of nanjing normal university, guided children in difficult situations to draw self-portraits. through this interactive and entertaining way, she helped children to actively express their thoughts and emotions. "a girl with excellent grades, who was strong and optimistic in the eyes of her teachers and us, drew a kitten with tears on her face, pointed at the painting and said that the cat was herself." professor huang xiaoshan recalled with a heartbroken tone. such active expression allows us to understand the fragility behind a strong girl. it is a window opened by the child for us to further communicate and help.
teachers' mental health is also a focus of the project. due to the absence of family affection, rural teachers sometimes play the role of "substitute" parents, which sometimes puts pressure on teachers. for this reason, huatai securities' "one tomorrow" project has established workshops among teachers in supporting schools to provide channels for mutual learning, communication and emotional counseling among teachers. "we hope to help teachers in various ways, and their mental health is equally important," said professor huang xiaoshan.
in jinzhai, anhui, volunteers guide children in difficult situations to carry out mental health co-creation activities.
over the past six years, huatai securities has coordinated with its headquarters, branches and subsidiaries to organize a number of charity fairs, charity sales of employees' children's calligraphy and paintings, charity runs and other activities to guide employees and caring people in the society to participate in charity fundraising. the proceeds are used for the "yixin huatai one tomorrow" charity project in yushu, qinghai, jinzhai and yuexi, anhui, enshi, hubei, suqian, jiangsu and other places to support disadvantaged children in schools and improve their learning and living conditions.
in 2022, huatai charity foundation was established. in the same year, it jointly established the "yixin huatai" rural revitalization special fund with its subsidiaries, with an initial fund of 20 million yuan to promote industrial revitalization, support the development of rural education and medical services, and provide targeted funding for special groups such as left-behind children in rural areas and children with serious illnesses, creating greater social shared value.
the 2023 "one tomorrow charity run" was held at the nanjing olympic sports center, with more than 1,600 participants. the registration fee was fully donated to the "one tomorrow children in difficulties funding program" project.
