the 2024 chengdu rowing open will be held in the urban section of nanhe xinjin from september 15 to 16. this is the first time that an international high-level rowing event has returned to chengdu xinjin after a lapse of 5 years.
xinjin held the international elite schools rowing exhibition and traditional dragon boat festival in 2009, with eight domestic and foreign elite school rowing teams from the united states, italy, australia and other countries participating. with the approval of the state sports general administration, the "international elite schools rowing exhibition" officially became the "international elite schools rowing challenge" in 2010. in the summers of the following 10 years, more than 100 international elite school rowing teams and more than 1,500 rowing athletes from 12 countries including the united states, britain, france, germany, new zealand, australia, and russia came to chengdu xinjin district to participate in the event, attracting more than 2 million tourists from home and abroad.
this year's mid-autumn festival, international high-level rowing events will be held again in xinjin after a five-year hiatus. according to the organizers, the 2024 chengdu rowing open will invite 12 internationally renowned universities such as harvard, yale, oxford, cambridge, tsinghua university, and peking university to compete. "among these players, there are not only top students, but also many who have participated in high-level international competitions such as the olympics and the universiade. their competitive level is very high!"
the event is divided into four groups: university group, open group, youth group and professional group. the university group competition event is the men's eight-man single sculls with a coxswain 800-meter straight race, and the open group, youth group and professional group competition events are the men's four-man double sculls 800-meter straight race and the women's four-man double sculls 800-meter straight race. the open group, youth group and professional group are all planning to invite 8 professional teams to participate. slightly different from before, the "international elite school rowing challenge" for 10 consecutive years has held the competition on the professional track of the sichuan water sports management center, and the 2024 chengdu rowing open will move the venue to the nanhe river in xinjin, bringing international high-level events to citizens and tourists. "dragon boat festival, mid-autumn rowing" is also xinjin's active move to create the "water city double competition" city ip.
