the 2024 (12th) new zealand chinese film festival will be held in auckland and wellington from september to october. during the festival, the weihai marine documentary "ocean chasing fish" will hold its premiere, and the audience can have dialogues with the creative team.
"ocean chasing fish" is a documentary about distant-water fishing directed by weihai local director jing jianmin. it records the hardships of weihai's distant-water fishing vessels in catching tuna in the indian ocean, and presents the fearlessness and responsibility of distant-water fishermen from a delicate perspective. it was released in mainland china last year. the film has been included in the permanent collection of the "national image collection project", a major cultural project of the "14th five-year plan for cultural development", and was selected as a "chinese film going global" boutique project of the central propaganda department and the state administration of film in 2023. it also won the golden angel award for "best documentary film of the year" at the 19th china-us film festival in 2023 and other awards.
the 2024 (12th) new zealand chinese film festival is jointly hosted by the china national film administration, the embassy of the people's republic of china in new zealand and the consulate general in auckland, co-organized by the new zealand pacific culture and art exchange center and the china film archive, and co-organized by the wellington chinese cultural center.
