recently, representatives of freshmen majoring in four disciplines, namely, navigation technology, marine engineering, marine electronic and electrical engineering, and energy and power engineering, from the merchant marine college of shanghai maritime university, went to the china polar center to visit the xuelong and experience the charm of maritime culture in advance.

as china's first polar scientific research vessel, the xuelong has successfully carried out many antarctic and arctic expedition missions since it was put into use, providing a solid foundation for my country's polar scientific research. it is not only a platform for scientists to explore the unknown world, but also an important part of the country's marine development strategy. second engineer dong heng used vivid language to describe the scene of the xuelong breaking ice in the polar waters, and the students seemed to have personally experienced those challenging and glorious moments.
afterwards, the freshmen visited the core areas of the xuelong in turn. the first place they came to was the bridge, which is the command center of the entire ship. the various advanced navigation equipment and control systems amazed the students present. then they went to the engine room deep in the belly of the ship, which is the heart of the ship. the complex mechanical structure and precise operating procedures left a deep impression on the students. finally, they went to the laboratory equipped with advanced scientific research facilities, where the students learned how the scientists on the ship used these equipment to conduct various research.
after the visit, zheng rongzhi, a freshman majoring in navigation technology, said, "i hope to learn more about navigation knowledge after entering school and devote myself to the navigation industry in the future."
