china daily online, september 3: the capitol hill website recently reported that according to a new survey, most americans list inflation and homelessness as "very serious" problems.

the survey found that inflation topped the list of "very serious" issues for u.s. voters for the third consecutive year, with 67% saying the issue will be a major concern in the 2024 election. a similar survey last year showed that 68% of americans considered inflation a serious problem, while the figure in 2022 was 64%.

of the 32 topics surveyed, homelessness and debt were close behind, with 59% each considering them serious problems. the survey found that in 2023, 60% of americans considered homelessness a serious problem, while 52% considered debt a serious problem.

pollsters also noted that concerns about illegal immigration have increased over the past 12 months. illegal immigration is one of the most talked-about issues in this presidential election, with 53% of respondents saying they are concerned about the issue. in 2023, the issue had a support rate of 49%, and in 2022, it was 43%.

voters from both parties differ in their views on the most pressing domestic issues. for democrats, gun violence ranks first (81%), followed by climate change (75%), poverty (70%), homelessness (70%) and lack of health care (66%), according to the survey.

for republicans, inflation is the biggest problem (89%), followed by illegal immigration (86%), debt (66%) and drug abuse (66%).

the yougov poll of 1,138 adults was conducted from august 7 to 10 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
